Butter cookie shapes

These cookies are crisp on the edges and tender in the middle. Chill the dough for cleaner shapes.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temp
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp fine salt

Steps

  1. Heat oven to 350F. Line a sheet pan.
  2. Beat butter and sugar until fluffy, then add vanilla.
  3. Mix in flour and salt until a soft dough forms.
  4. Roll and cut shapes, or scoop rounds.
  5. Bake 10 to 12 minutes until the edges turn light golden.

Notes

  • Chill the dough 20 minutes if it feels sticky.
  • Add lemon zest for a bright finish.
