Classic Vanilla Buttercream

A smooth, pipeable buttercream that holds swirls and spreads easily.

Vanilla buttercream

This is my go-to frosting when I want something dependable and creamy.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temp
  • 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 to 3 tbsp milk
  • Pinch of salt

Steps

  1. Beat butter until pale and fluffy.
  2. Add powdered sugar in batches, then mix in vanilla and salt.
  3. Add milk a tablespoon at a time to reach a smooth, pipeable consistency.

Notes

  • For whiter frosting, beat a few extra minutes.
  • Add a squeeze of lemon if you want a brighter finish.
